Excellence in Construction & Craftsmanship Award
Northern New York Builder’s Exchange
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) project D264534 involves rehabilitating the historic 1,145-ft long Wurts Street Bridge over Rondout Creek in Kingston, NY. Originally completed in 1921 as the Kingston-Port Ewen Suspension Bridge, it was the first suspension bridge in the Hudson Valley and the final link in New York’s first north-south highway (Route 9W) on the west side of the Hudson River.
Closed to all traffic in September 2020 due to disrepair, the bridge received $37MM for rehabilitation from the New York State Assembly. The scope included structural steel replacements, anchor repairs, and concrete repairs. The best value submission was awarded to Wurts Bridge Constructors, LLC (WBC).
SperryCo, as a specialty subcontractor to WBC, handled part of the anchorage eye-bar rehabilitation. They installed six new Permanent Rock Anchors at each of the four corners (vaults) of the bridge, totaling 24 production anchors and 2 test anchors. The Rock Anchors, varying from 50 to 90 ft, were installed at angles between 15 and 20 degrees to match the original bridge anchorage design. All underwent performance tests before NYS DOT acceptance. SperryCo worked on-site from November 2021 to March 2022, transferring the load from the original anchorage to the new rock anchors.

Excellence in Construction Award
Empire State Chapter of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors)
Erin Sperry attended the 50th Anniversary Dinner for ABC, where she received the award for 2021 Construction Excellence in the category of Specialty Contractor for Public Environmental Work for the North Ferry Street Sewage Pump Station project. SperryCo’s work on this project in Schenectady, NY, involved design-build solutions for a dewatering system and various micropile foundations.
The project gained recognition for its creative technical solutions and for meeting or exceeding expectations for technical performance and schedule. Located adjacent to the banks of the Mohawk River, the site presented challenges due to its direct hydraulic connection to the river, caused by the existing geological subsurface conditions.
Associated Builders and Contractors of Empire State is a national construction association devoted to merit shop contractors. The Empire State chapter serves over 400 members, offering resources for safety programs, education (apprenticeship/project management), government affairs, and other professional services.
November 2020 – Erin Sperry was elected to the ABC Empire State Board of Directors, serving a two-year term.
November 2022 – Erin Sperry was re-elected to the ABC Empire State Board of Directors, serving a two-year term.
